AMS Healthcare Funding in Compassion and Artifical Intelligence

Fellowships

Program

Does your work help answer the question, "How can digital technology and artificial intelligence change the healthcare we provide?"

If you are early to mid-career, have a PhD or a Master's degree, you can apply to become a fellow in this field.

The fellowship at a glance:

  • 12 Fellowships available
  • Funding: each fellow will receive $75,000
  • Timeline: 12 months

 

The fellowship must:

  1. Explore specific attributes of compassion in relation to digital technology/AI;
  2. Compassion is clearly conceptualized and defined in the proposal; and
  3. The exploration of compassion in relation to digital technology/AI is core to the proposal

 

Administering partner:

The Ontario SPOR Support Unit oversees the application process.

Eligibility

Who you are: 

  • Early or mid-career academic health investigator working in a CIHR eligible institution within the last 5 years

OR

  • A regulated healthcare professional with graduate school training or an academic in a field related to/focused on healthcare in a healthcare organization, provincial government, academic setting or a provincial/national health professional organization

 

Successful applicants must also be:

  • Supervised by an individual who has an academic appointment with a university-based graduate program and who conducts research in health services and/or technology
  • Mentored by an individual (not the supervisor) who has an academic appointment with a university-based graduate program and who conducts research in health services/technology

  • Jan 17, 2023

    Letter of Intent Due

    Applicants are required to submit:

    • A complete Letter of Intent (LOI) template (Calibri, 11pt, single spaced),
    • An abbreviated CV, and
    • A letter of support from the sponsoring institution

    Submit application to OSSU, at ossu@ossu.ca, by 5:00pm EST, Tuesday, January 17, 2022

    Following administrative review, applications will be assessed by a panel of
    experts 

  • Feb 28, 2023

    Results of LOI

    Applicants will be notified of results on or before Monday, February 28, 2023

  • Apr 12, 2023

    Full Application Due

    Successful applicants will be invited to submit a full application to the competition. Applicants must submit a complete Full Application template (Calibri, 11pt, single spaced) as well as additional documentation requested in the call to OSSU, at ossu@ossu.ca by 5:00pm EST, Tuesday, April 12, 2023

    Announcement of Selected Fellows

    The results of the full application stage will be determined by he AMS Board's Review Committee. All applicants will be notified of the results in late June 2023

Program

This innovative grant program is designed to support projects that will generate new knowledge and evidence to advance the education/training of undergraduate, graduate, and practicing healthcare professionals, and clinical health systems, and related field researchers on compassionate care and AI.

The grant at a glance:

  • 10 grants available
  • Funding: each recipient will receive $20,000
  • Timeline: maximum of 12-months

 

Core criteria for the grant:

  1. Explores specific attribute(s) of compassion in relation to digital technology/AI;
  2. Compassion is clearly conceptualized and defined in the proposal; and
  3. The exploration of compassion in relation to digital technology/AI is core to the proposal

The Ontario SPOR Support Unit oversees the application process.

Eligibility

Who you are: 

  • Early or mid-career academic health investigator working in a CIHR eligible institution within the last 5 years

OR

  • A regulated healthcare professional with graduate school training or an academic in a field related to/focused on healthcare in a healthcare organization, provincial government, academic setting or a provincial/national health professional organization

 

Guidelines:

  • Preference will be given to applicants who reside in Ontario and are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Activities proposed in the application must occur at an organization located in Canada
  • Applicants may hold only one AMS award in the same year

    Applicants are required to submit:

    • Full proposal submission template
    • An abbreviated CV of no more than 5 pages
    • Letters from the sponsoring institution and co-Pls/collaborators
