Healthcare robots and the good life

Impact of Tech

In the robotics space, Dr. Aimee van Wynsberghe often asks, “Should we do this?,”  instead of asking whether something is, in fact, possible. In this engaging talk, she explains why ethics are necessary in robotic design and production, and argues that they can be used to inspire innovation instead of curtailing it.

As she points out (after a brief and helpful discussion of her background and what ethics are), in many places, ethicists are perceived as a voice that collectively stifles innovation. She makes the case for a narrative that ethics and ethicists can inspire both the core capabilities of technology as well as their implementation.

Dr. van Wynsberghe is a robot ethicist at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, and the President and Co-Founder of the Foundation for Responsible Robotics. This inspiring talk will help you understand the intersection of ethics and robotic health technologies. It’s appropriate for beginners and experts alike.
