  • Trust

Artificial intelligence (AI) is being introduced into health care settings to improve efficiency, decision-making and patient safety. However, it arrives in a context already marked by declining institutional trust. Current approaches, centred on technical refinement and procedural compliance, only partially address this dynamic. Joseph’s project aims to identify where, how, and when trust and compassion can be built into AI-enabled health systems. Through site visits, interviews, and collaborative design workshops with policymakers, AI developers, patients, and community organizations, his project will identify practical ways to improve how AI is designed, implemented, and governed. Joseph’s project will produce practical resources, including a policy toolkit, reports, academic publications, and conference presentations, to help ensure AI supports more trustworthy, equitable and compassionate health care in Canada.
