Themes:
  • Cancer
  • Compassionate AI
  • Patient-centred communication

People being tested for blood cancers often receive several highly technical laboratory reports that can be confusing, overwhelming, and difficult to understand. Benjamin’s project will develop and evaluate an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that brings these reports together into clear, easy-to-understand summaries for both clinicians and patients. The tool is being designed with patients, clinicians, and AI experts to ensure that it communicates complex medical information accurately, compassionately, and in language people can understand. Rather than replacing clinicians, the AI will help them prepare clearer explanations that support conversations with patients during one of the most stressful parts of the cancer journey. By improving understanding while protecting patient privacy, this research aims to make blood cancer diagnosis more compassionate and provide a model for responsibly using AI to improve communication across healthcare.
