AMS thrilled with new Board appointments

Nick Busing, AMS Board Chair is pleased to announce the appointment of Vanessa Gruben and Kumanan Wilson as Members of the Board of Directors.

Vanessa Gruben, B.Sc.H (Queen’s), LL.B., LL.M.  is Vice Dean of the English Common Law Program, an Associate Professor and a member of the Centre for Health Law, Policy and Ethics at the University of Ottawa. Her research interests include legal and ethical issues regarding professional self-regulation, assisted reproduction, organ donation, and harm reduction. She is co-editor of the 5th edition of Canada’s leading health law text, Canadian Health Law and Policy. Professor Gruben teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in health law, and public health law as well as a seminar on access to healthcare.

Kumanan Wilson, MD, FRCPC, MSc is a specialist in General Internal Medicine at the Ottawa Hospital. He is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and Senior Scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. He also holds a Research Chair in Public Health Policy. Dr. Wilson’s current work focuses on public health innovation including blood safety, immunization, and newborn screening. Working alongside leading scientists and clinicians, Dr. Wilson’s team has developed a pan-Canadian digital immunization record, a digital comic to teach children about immunization, a stroke-rehabilitation platform, and a mobile tool for emergency department clinicians. His research team is responsible for creating a blood test for pre-term birth in low resource settings, that was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. They are currently working with the World Health Organization to evaluate the International Health Regulations.
