Advancing health data justice: Integrating compassion and artificial wisdom in AI

What if healthcare AI could be grounded in the wisdom of the communities it hopes to serve? Marisol’s project explores how Indigenous knowledges and their unique perspectives on compassion can reshape how we design AI tools in healthcare. Grounded in the perspectives of Indigenous patients and caregivers, Marisol is working alongside Indigenous mentors and community partners to define what compassion means in care and how those values can guide ethical, culturally respectful AI. They are co-creating a framework rooted in “Artificial Wisdom”, a concept that brings together technology, ethics, and relational accountability. By listening to communities and honoring their priorities, they aim to build a future where AI isn’t just intelligent, but wise in genuinely addressing community needs.
