AMS Healthcare Launches A Dose of History: A New Space for Historical Insight in Health Care
February 12, 2026
AMS Healthcare is proud to announce the launch of A Dose of History, a new Substack publication hosted by AMS Healthcare Fellow Lucy Vorobej.
For more than half a century, AMS Healthcare has championed the study of the history of medicine and health care as a vital foundation for thoughtful leadership, compassionate systems, and responsible innovation. A Dose of History extends that legacy into a new digital space – one designed to bring rigorous historical scholarship into active dialogue with today’s most pressing healthcare conversations.
This twice-monthly publication offers short, accessible essays that foreground archival research, historical context, and critical analysis. By connecting historians with educators, clinicians, policymakers, and system leaders, A Dose of History aims to deepen understanding of how past decisions, values, and power structures continue to shape contemporary health systems.
The publication is intentionally bridge-building. Its vitality depends on the participation of historians across career stages, institutions, and fields of inquiry. Contributors are invited to share reflections drawn from current research, archival discoveries, teaching experiences, or the evolving practice of historical work itself.
At a time when health systems are navigating rapid technological and social change, historical thinking offers perspective, humility, and critical insight. A Dose of History creates space for that thinking to inform the present – and shape the future.
We invite you to subscribe, contribute, and share widely with colleagues and communities who care about the role of history in building better health systems.
