Stephen Duckett

Stephen Duckett is Director of the Health Program at Grattan Institute, an independent public policy think tank based in Melbourne, Australia. With a career spanning academic, policy making and operational roles, he has developed a reputation for creativity, evidence-based innovation and reform in areas ranging from the introduction of activity-based funding for hospitals, to new systems of accountability for the safety of hospital care. Stephen served as Secretary (Deputy Minister) of the Australian Department of Health in 1994-96 and as inaugural President and Chief Executive Officer of Alberta Health Services (2009-10). He was Professor of Health Policy, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Pro-Vice Chancellor at La Trobe University from 1996-2006. He is now an Emeritus Professor of that University.
An economist, Stephen is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.
