Sarita Verma

Dr. Sarita Verma is the President, Vice Chancellor, Dean, and CEO of NOSM University.  She is the first female Dean of NOSM and is described as a leader in academic medicine, a family doctor, an innovative educator, lawyer, former Canadian diplomat, health advocate, respected internationalist and a champion of social accountability.

Sarita began her journey in medical education in 1998 as the Associate Dean Post Graduate Medical Education (PGME) then Associate Dean Medical Education at Queens University. Sarita moved to the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in 2005 where she held numerous leadership roles including Vice Dean PGME, Associate Vice Provost Health Professions Education, and Deputy Dean, Faculty of Medicine. Her passion for medical education took her to the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada, where from 2017 to 2019 she served as the Vice President of Education.

Sarita has received numerous recognitions, awards, and honours throughout her career and in 2021 was named to the Canadian Healthcare Network 2021 Physician Power List.  Sarita’s vast expertise in health professions education, along with her focus on social accountability supports AMS’s focus on compassion and technology and its impact on education and practice.
